Claim for online pix

Hi everyone,

Welcome back from covering the General Election!

I'm sure some of you have come across problems while covering it especially when it comes to what you can claim and what you cannot.

Please fill us in on your concerns so we can use that when we start negotiations for the next CA.

Our current CA will end in 2015 so we have about a year and a half to prepare and we'd like to be prepared to face the management.

I've been informed by HR that the CA booklet will be ready next Monday. Once it is, we will distribute it to everyone.

An issue that has been hanging over our heads this past few weeks is the idea that we can no longer claim for Online Pictures.

Apparently, this was agreed upon verbally years ago by one of the previous chairmen.

If you have put in your claims this year and it was accepted, please inform us so we can build our case.

If you don't already know, we can claim RM23 for pictures we shot ourselves that appear on print or, until recently, online. But we cannot put in our claims for both.

So question now: Have you claimed for online pictures in the past year? How would your livelihood be affected without the additional RM23?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers

NUJ slams attacks on journalists covering vigils

The Star | 24 May 2013

GEORGE TOWN: The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the attacks on journalists covering a series of candlelight vigils held to show solidarity for student activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim.

Adam was arrested last Saturday and charged yesterday with one count of uttering a seditious statement during a talk in Kuala Lumpur.

NUJ's general secretary Schave Jerome De Rozario said that police should act promptly against these groups as there was no reason for them to physically harm journalists.

“We will not condone such acts of violence of media workers being attacked while discharging their public duty.” he said.

Oriental Daily's reporter Ooi Chun Nam and Cheah Chin Liang from Sin Chew Daily were allegedly assaulted by the group when they tried to help the vigil's organiser Sean Ho from being run over on Wednesday. They have since lodged a police report.

“We also call on reporters and photographers, especially NUJ members covering public gatherings, to adhere to the guidelines in our safety handbook,” De Rozario added.
